Abstract : The current study investigates the effect of Corpus-Based Approach as a pedagogical approach to academic writing instruction in the context of Saudi Arabia. A total of 15 female preparatory year students at an intermediate language proficiency level at King Abdul-Aziz University participated in the study. The first section of the research aimed at investigating the effect of applying Corpus-Based Approach to learners’ academic writing instruction on their lexico-grammatical abilities following a pretest-posttest design. The second section aimed at explaining learners’ perception of Corpus-Based Approach Instruction through one-to-one interviews. The findings of the first section of the study demonstrated that the improvement of lexico-grammatical abilities among students is significant. The results of the second section showed that learners perceive the application of Corpus Based-Approach positively, and four themes were found to be recurrent in their responses, including Increasing learners’ confidence as EFL writers, fostering learners’ language awareness, providing availability of input, and promoting learners’ autonomy.
