The study aimed to determine the level of applying teamwork development stages (forming, storming, norming, and performing) and how to enhance the least applied ones in the governmental sector in Jordan. In addition, the study aimed to examine the statistical differences of mangers’ views toward teamwork development stages due to demographic and organizational variables. The study population is 455 that include all working managers (manager, manager assistant, chairman, unit chief) in the governmental agencies of the Northern Governorates in Jordan.
The study findings indicate the following:
1-High perception of the extent of applying teamwork development stages as reported by managers.
2-The performing stage, as one of the teamwork development components, has the highest level of application, while the storming stage has the least level.
3- Managers proposed the following to enhance teamwork stages: building trust, utilizing transparency, conducting training courses, linking incentives with performance, accepting constructive criticism, and selecting team members based on scientific criteria.
4-Statistical differences of managers’ views were found toward the whole teamwork stages due to their age, while no statistical differences were found due to managers’ gender, governorate, years in service, job title, number of department members, nature of task, and variety of specializations and experiences.
The study recommended more emphasis on educating managers and employees of the importance of teamwork as a major technique of modern management by conducting training courses and building trust among individuals.
